India Vs Pakistan. If you know you know, the biggest rivalry in world cricket. This event was a family fun fair at Walsall rugby club where the match would be displayed on a giant screen. The entertainment included kids rides, bouncy castle, face painting, ice cream van, Indian street food, BBQ grill, dancers, dhol players and a whole lot more.
The gates opened at 13:00 and by 13:30 I would say it was half full. We were playing a mix of feel good family friendly songs. There was a host who began by welcoming everyone and went through the itinerary for the day. The first act came on at 14:30. It was a singer from Mumbai, he performed 3 songs, acapella with an acoustic guitar. The crowd responded well as everyone gathered around the stage.The next act was an all female dance group, dancing in different styles including bhangra, hip hop and salsa. Very impressive.By now the event was at full capacity, around 1500 people had attended. The match was due to start at 15:30 so we played a final few songs before switching the sound over to the live game. Pakistan won the toss and decided to field. Despite a good start they managed only 113 runs in 20 overs.
During the interval there was more entertainment. Bhangra Smash Up took to the stage, an energetic drumming team performing to their own mixes. As well as dhols they were rocking snare drums, dholki and chimta. Quite unique.
In the second half as India batted we ramped up the energy by playing songs between each over. Upbeat music to get the crowd dancing. Every run and boundary was met with rapturous cheers and applause, horns blaring and one guy blasting the dhol.
Pakistan put up a brave fight but ultimately India proved victorious against their old adversaries beating them by 6 runs at which point the place erupted. I jumped on the decks and MC LyriKal began freestyling. People were dancing everywhere. This went on for over an hour before the event slowly drew to a conclusion.
A wonderful occasion overall with many people complimenting and inquiring about our services. Shout out to the Pakistan fans, despite being heavily outnumbered by around 10 to 1 they showed up and represented.
